Fine Dining En Route to Commute
As you may or may not have seen in our twitpic, the K&W family went out to dinner around the corner at La Fonda Del Sol. The manager, Chris, is a customer of ours so in supporting him we had an amazing meal. The food, that atmosphere, and the service was outstanding, and it was nice to catch up with my fellow K&W employees on our different ways home from the office. Over a few glasses of wine, we sat with our jeweler, Scotty, and setter, Mike, and we all exchanged some great ideas for the future of the store. I’ll give away a little spoiler right now and say that we might have a special “gifting showcase” in the near future for those who come in looking for a quick fix present for birthdays, babies, religious ceremonies, and the like.
As far as the food let me give you a few recommendations. First and foremost… the TUNA TACOS were devoured in thirty seconds. You’ll find these treats on the seafood tapas menu. I would recommend ordering one more portion than you think you’d like because they are fresh, flavorful and mmmm mmmm goooooood. Chris surprised us with some other treats while we were seated. The Salt Cod Croquetas were fantastic and not something we would have ordered at first glance (there are so many good looking options). As far as entrees, we all ordered seafood and from the salmon to the cod to the paella we loved it all! If you’re in midtown and looking for a great place to eat lunch, dinner or go for Happy Hour definitely think of La Fonda Del Sol.

Baby, It’s… Chilly… Outside
Anyone in NYC this morning can feel that it’s a little cooler than normal. Maybe the A/C on the train got to me during today’s commute, but I am more than ready for a nice warm drink. While I think now is two months too early for holiday music, the morning seems just right for a nice hot chocolate (or tea if you’re feeling more adult than I am right now). I went ahead and searched “best hot chocolate in NYC” and came up with this website. If you also left a scarf home this morning, maybe you’ll use this list to find a nice, warm treat for your walk to work.

Back in June my friend, Alexandra, came into the store and designed a necklace with Philip that she decided to gift herself for her birthday. She had come across a picture of what she wanted somewhere in the magazines that she reads on a regular basis (think any and all pop-culture/entertainment publications), but she couldn’t remember exactly where. The design that Philip and Alexandra sent into the next phase of production turned out to be EXACTLY what she wanted and so BEAUTIFUL that she never takes it off her neck (really…never).
not only did all of our friends love Alexandra’s new appendage, but after the masterpiece was created I noticed just how many people love this style of monogram necklaces. Women have come into K&W to order these custom pieces as “thank you” gifts for their bridal parties, and parents have come to get graduation gifts for their daughters, while sons play it safe, getting their mothers this go-to, risk-free, guaranteed to get you out of any kind of trouble gift.
The actual reason that I’m sharing this with you is that I want to post a picture… That’s it! So if nothing else, scroll down and take a look at my very own masterpiece. I’m proud of myself today because I think I picked the perfect gift for my best friend (whose birthday is on Sunday)! She is usually a difficult friend to shop for because I never know what to get her, but this year I know exactly what she has been wanting and I am positive that she is going to be fall-out-of-the-chair excited when she opens the box! I’ll pat myself of the back today and wish you all luck in your shopping!
Happy gifting!

Introducing Shelby
Hello New York!! I’m Shelby and I am the fourth generation of my family in the jewelry business. I’m excited to get this K&W Diamonds blog really going. Thank you to K&W’s owner, Philip, for getting the blog started; I’m taking it forward and will share all kinds of stories, news and information. With the help of Philip and the K&W family we’ll have posts from individuals working on all sides of the business from those in the store to those cutting diamonds in our factory down the street. While we use our best judgment to bring you what we find worthy, we would love to hear from you!
Check back frequently as I write about what’s going on not just in the store, but also in the media, inNew Yorkand around the world (there’s nothing more exciting to me than meeting travelers who come into our store. I’d love some feedback and if there are ever questions that the gemologists and jewelry professionals can answer, I will get the answers you need right back to you. Philip, the owner of K&W, will also post on this blog from time to time to give us his unique perspective. Stay tuned!

Happy July 2010!
This is our first blog and we are very excited about it. To think, when Ronald and I got started, over 30 years ago, creating a postcard or calling someone by phone ( landline) was a big idea! Now, 30 years later, and over 20 years as partners, we BLOG. Frankly, if it weren’t for the next generation this would not be possible.
Ronald and I are incredibly excited to bring our next generation into the business…. WOW.. We have watched each other’s children grow, and now we get to work with them. It is pretty exciting to think that all of our kids were either babies or non-existent when we merged…Now the youngest is already 14. What is so great is that these young people, some Kestenbaums and some Weisners, come here and become KestenbaumWeisners… indistinguishable. We treat them as one and they treat us as one. Even more importantly, these kids get along like the best of friends and family. How very cool it is for us ( the old men) to watch our kids work together, get excited for each other, care about each other and cheer for each other.
Oh yeah , the blog. Well Louie started us off with a fan page on Facebook (Kestenbaum & Weisner Fine Jewelry) and we began to enter a new world…. “Social Networking” Of course if you are reading this you are only too aware of this phenomenon; but for me, Philip, this is all new. Louie has worked with Manhattan Bride Magazine as well, again making a place for this new generation (and with a wonderful magazine for those who are looking to get engaged and married – some super ideas and wonderful pictures). Anyway after Lou got us open to this social networking, ArinMichelle got involved and helped move it along…actually creating this blog site and a twitter account..( still not sure I get it all…but I am trying) We look forward to all this communication and connection to you.
We are so very proud of this next generation..we invite you to come in visit, say hi, catch Lou or ArinMichelle in the showroom, or you may catch Julian sitting at the cutters bench…Yes Julian is following in his grandfather’s foot steps… He sits at the diamond cutting bench helping to make those perfect diamonds that we offer.
Have any questions?….ask ask ask..We invite your inquiries..
Challenge this new generation and make them your connection..
